My attitude around New Year’s resolutions is what some would call pessimistic (and what I call realistic). I don’t think you should wait until January 1st to implement beneficial lifestyle changes–nothing worth pursuing should be put off until tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. Your goals are important, so why wait to achieve them? Of course, I understand this is easier to rant about than it is to put into practice. So I did what I do every time I need clarity; I made a list. But this one’s for you! Instead of celebrating a new year by wasting energy convincing yourself that you’re officially going to start doing that really necessary or healthy or practical or selfless thing, how about you try reflecting on the blessings and lessons that 2018 brought you?
Here are some prompts to get you started:
- What hard lessons did you learn in 2018 that will make 2019 a better year?
- What unexpected event(s) took place in your life this year?
- Who encouraged you to keep going when you wanted to quit this year?
- Who are you thankful to have met in 2018?
- How did you take care of yourself this year?
- How did you serve others this year?
