An animal-rights group is looking to decorate Illinois highways with a series of moo-ving tributes -- to cows who were killed in the line of duty.
PETA is asking the state's Department of Transportation to place memorial markers at sites where cattle being transported to slaughter festivities were killed in truck accidents. A PETA spokesperson says the group wants to call attention to the suffering endured by cows in the meat industry.
A government rep says that taxpayers shouldn't have a cow over paying for the markers, which are unlikely to be approved.
