Coming up with something to get my mom for Mother’s Day is always a major struggle for me–not because my mom is picky or because I don’t know her well, but because I want my gift to her to be a reflection of how much I love her, and while flowers are a beautiful centerpiece for her kitchen island, I don’t feel like they completely do the job. I just came up with an idea this morning (with a little help from Pinterest), and I’m really excited to see her reaction when I give to her. I realized the reason this is the perfect gift is because it checks all the important boxes. “What boxes?” you ask? Here are some simple questions that (if you’re a last minute shopper, like moi) might help you come up with the Mother’s Day gift she didn’t know she wanted.
- What makes you mom really happy? I don’t mean “the-sun-is-shining-and-I’m healthy” happy. I’m talking about the kind of happiness she lights up with so bright that you can’t help but mistake it for your own.
- What’s your favorite memory with you mom? I can’t think of anything that says “I love you, Mom” better than recreating a wonderful memory!
- What does your mom complain about? She might be the most selfless person you know, but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t have needs of her own–and she’s probably dropping hints about them.
- What is your mom’s idea of “treating herself”? …just make that happen for her, so she doesn’t have to!
- What is the best gift your mom has ever given you? You don’t think she’s putting her own taste aside when she shops for you, do you?
- What do you love most about your mom? Like, as an individual! Your mom is more than just your mom, so make a list of the things you adore about her and write it on the inside of a nice card. Just to know she’s seen for the person she is would make her feel truly loved on Mother’s Day.
…If it comes down to it, statistically, moms really do love getting flowers for Mother’s Day. So you can’t wrong there. Happy Mother’s Day!
