Connect Transit is continuing to monitor our services, we are seeing an alarming trend. Several of our routes are experiencing higher than expected ridership. This is occurring sporadically on routes at varying times of day. Based on feedback from the operators, non-essential trips are rising due to warmer weather and the urge to simply get out of the house.
In an effort to comply with social distancing and the Governor’s “All in Illinois” campaign, Connect Transit will start to limit the number of passengers on the bus to a maximum of 10. To accommodate those riders that may be left off a bus, we will utilize our paratransit drivers as a standby. When a bus reaches capacity it will radio base to dispatch a paratransit bus to pick up passengers left along the route. The driver will notify the passenger that another bus will be along to pick them up.
These measures will go into effect on Saturday, April 4th. “We are all in this together and we need customers to only use Connect for essential travel,” stated Isaac Thorne, General Manager.
