Court Bid To Halt IHSA Limits On Fall Sports Rejected

An Illinois judge has rejected a request from student-athletes and parents to reverse the current IHSA restrictions that are preventing high school football and limiting other sports this fall.

The plaintiffs had sued claiming the IHSA had exceeded its authority when it imposed the restrictions, following guidelines set forth by state public health officials to limit activities seen as high-risk for the spread of coronavirus. The judge ruled that the pandemic is an extraordinary situation and the IHSA had the authority to respond accordingly… and said he did not see an indication that the plaintiffs were suffering “irreparable harm.”

Lawyers for the students and their parents say there’s no decision yet on whether they will proceed with the case.
