During actress Carey Mulligan’s monologue on “Saturday Night Live” her husband, Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, made a surprise appearance.
Her monologue began as she expressed her happiness and joked about how she’s often mistaken for actress Michelle Williams. She then opened up about life during the pandemic. Carey said, “I spent the last year quarantining in the English countryside with my husband and two small children, which is the beginning of most horror movie.”
She also shared a reason she was trilled to be on “SNL” by saying, “I’m also very excited to be here because my husband was actually musical guest three times — Marcus Mumford from Mumford & Sons! Or as I like to call it, My Husband & Son. But he couldn’t be here tonight, so he’s at home watching the children. So hi, babe! Love you!”
That’s when Marcus chimed in from the back of the audience and said, “Love you too! Hi, Carey! Couldn’t miss this for the world! And I meant to ask: Do you know if they booked a musical guest for tonight?”
After being informed that the show indeed already had a musical guest booked, Marcus let his wife know that he’s ready should “SNL” need someone to step in.
Carey then attempted to get the show back on track, but was interrupted once more when Marcus started playing his guitar. After she yelled, “Babe!” Marcus said, “Sorry. I thought you were giving me the signal — our secret couples signal for ‘please play the guitar.’”
Trying to appease her husband, Carey said he could play his guitar as she closed out her monologue, so he did.
